Sony acquired Naughty Dog in 2001. In 2011, Naughty Dog announced that it has created The Last of Us for PlayStation 3, and went on to becoming the best selling survival horror game with action/adventure nomenclature mixed into the gameplay. By 2018, it sold 17 Million copies worldwide. Sony greenlit a few remasters in between big releases.
Sony released The Last of Us in 2013 for PlayStation 3. An expansion was released, known as “The Last of Us: Left Behind” for PlayStation 3 & 4 in 2014. PlayStation 4 got a remaster of the first The Last of Us to be playable on PS4. (The Last of Us Remastered) In 2020, during a pandemic, ironically – Sony released The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 4. Shortly thereafter, in 2022, The Last of Us Part I was released for PlayStation 5, and PC. In early 2024, The Last of Us Part II Remastered is being released.
To date, The Last of Us has collectively, across all games in the franchise – “The Last of Us” has sold 37 Million copies worldwide.
The Last of Us Part II Remastered is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 5 on January 16, 2024.
