Sony released PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020 (November 19, 2020 everywhere else) and everyone has a chance to see the “User Experience.” Today, we’re going to learn how to play “locked” games on your new PlayStation 5 console. PlayStation Support’s YouTube channel uploaded a series of videos about how to do certain things on PlayStation 5. Learn how you can how manage to get your games “unlocked” on the new PS5 console…
In general, Sony encourages you to purchase games legally whether it was purchased physically, or online, or online straight from Sony themselves via PlayStation Store or a redeemable code via PSN. But there are some cases where your games has become locked and you’ll need to retrieve a “license” for that download that was previously purchased.
To do this, you’ll need to go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore License
If for whatever reason this doesn’t work, you’ll need to delete your game, re-download it, and re-install it. Your save data isn’t affected here.
If you still have issues with the game, go back to the same settings menu, and repeat the process outlined above, but instead of looking for “Restore License,” look for “Console Sharing and Offline Play,” to reactivate the license after the “Restore License” option.
